Sylvain Bellegarde Singer and guitarist, born in Quebec , Sylvain Bellegarde is a pure product of the Canadian vocal school. It was after meeting Luc Plamondon that he seriously began singing, and he soon moved in the direction of jazz. His studies took him to the Laval University of Quebec where his mentors were Pierre Lessard and Michel Donato, then on to Montreal University where he was tutored by Mario Vigneault. While in Montreal he took singing lessons with Madeleine Thériault, who teaches vocal technique for Broadway musical comedies. His training has assured him an excellent technical foundation for his warm
crooning timber where the influence of his favorite singers, Mel Tormé and Kurt Elling, are easily discernable. Perfectly bilingual and totally immersed in jazz culture, Sylvain adapts easily to the aesthetic of the Voice Messengers. Before coming to France he taught singing in Canada for six years and in 2002 and 2003 in Quebec , he sang in a duo with Guillaume Bouchard and with the group
Alka Salsa at the
Nuits d'Afrique festival and at
The Spectrum , Montreal . On his arrival in France in 2003 he worked regularly as leader of a duo, trio or quartet (for example with Stéphane Cochet ou Bruno Micheli) at the
Café Universel , the
Franc Pinot , the
7 Lézards or the
Kaskad , at
Studio des Islettes and in Le Touquet
