Gilles Naturel (contrebasse)

In addition to being a composer, orchestral director and sideman, Gilles has all the qualities of a truly great double bass player. His swing, precision, rhythm, inventiveness and above all his superb sound are reminiscent of Paul Chambers, with whom he shares the ability to execute amazing solos with the bow. As the son of a choir director, he has acquired a genuine love of singing, and he is particularly in demand from singers. Today he is one of the most sought after double bass players in France . In 1998 he composed, recorded and directed an album under

his own name ( Naturel - on JMS, distributed by Sony Music) along with Lionel Belmondo and Guillaume Naturel (tenor sax), Stéphane Belmondo and François Chassagnite (trumpet), Jacky Terrasson and Laurent de Wilde (piano), and Peter Gritz and Simon Goubert (drums). Worth noting too that he has recorded many jazz albums since the mid-1980s and has played alongside such greats as Ray Bryant (p), Benny Golson (ts), Art Farmer (tp), Johnny Griffin (ts), Didier Lockwood (vl), Michel Legrand (p), André Ceccarelli (dms), Alain Jean-Marie (p), Jean-Loup Longnon (tp), Laurent Fickelson (p), Laurent De Wilde (p), Jeanne Lee (voc), Sarah Lazarus (voc), and the list goes on. He has also played with many big bands.
