Philippe Soirat (batterie)

From Menton (Alpes Maritimes), Philippe Soirat grew up surrounded by the sound of the jazz that his parents listened to. Initially self taught, he later studied at the Monaco Music Conservatory and then at the Contemporary Music Center in Nice. In 1986 he moved to Paris where he sought out experienced musicians and learned a lot more in the best jazz school - the informal one - jam sessions, jazz clubs, in fact anywhere where he could increase his practical experience of jazz. The concerts multiplied and he had soon accompanied most of the musicians on both the

French and international music scenes. Among others: Barney Wilen, Ricky Ford, Lee Konitz, Lionel and Stéphane Belmondo, Lou Donaldson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ray Brown, Laurent de Wilde, Johnny Griffin and Mark Turner. His discography currently contains around thirty albums, featuring such artists as Laurent Fickelson, the Belmondo brothers, Yannick Rieu, François Théberge, Laurent Coq, Ricky Ford and Christophe Dal Sasso. His supple musical style, his great listening ability, his keen sense of swing and his ability to adapt to any kind of rhythmic groove or playing situation, make him one of the most sought after musicians in the capital. And his complicity with Gilles Naturel has been the joy of many an orchestra since the mid eighties.
